Blog # 1 One Artist's Journey

The Beginning...

“Then the Lord answered me and said:  Write down the vision clearly upon the tablets, so that one can read it readily.  For the vision still has its time, presses on to fulfillment, and will not disappoint;  if it delays, wait for it, it will surely come, it will not be late.” Habakkuk 2:2-3

Most of the artists I’ve read about or studied had one thing in common; they drew or painted from an early age.  In fact, the phrase most repeated was, “I can’t remember a time when I didn’t carry a pencil and sketchbook or held a brush in my hand.”  Many of these same artists comment on the encouragement or guidance of a parent or other significant adult in their lives.

My entrance into the world of art came about in a very different way. It came in the form of a dream, a dream that literally changed the course of my life!

In 1988 while working as a registered nurse I became very ill.  It was thought at the time that I possibly had Lupus.  I had good days and bad days.  When my bad days started to out number my good days, I knew it was time to give up my job and give my good days to my family.  Simple tasks like folding wash were a chore.  My arms felt like they were lifting a five pound weight instead of a bath towel.  Walking from my car to a mall entrance, my eyes were fixed on the bench outside where I could sit and catch my breath.  The simple task of chewing my food left me breathless.  Needless to say, this was a difficult time for me and my family.
